Appearance: Karkat, like many trolls, has black hair, and sharp, pointy teeth. Unlike most trolls, he has a nubby horns that he hates, and mutant red blood that he also hates. He's short for his age, only about 5'2"--and a little bit on the chubby side of things. Karkat has a bite of an overbite, but refuses to use the human invention of "braces" because they look like they're for dorks.
Biography: Karkat's lusus is probably the dumbest lusus that Karkat has ever met. Karkat has mutant red blood that he must hide from the world or be culled on the spot. So, what does his lusus do? Move to a town called Vermillion. Karkat could write essays about how dumb his lusus is and they would all be called "I COULD WRITE ESSAYS ABOUT THIS DUMB FUCK WHO RAISED ME, SO I THINK I WILL." His lusus, of course, doesn't understand the hemospectrum at all. If he did, he probably wouldn't have picked a mutant freak. His lusus decided to live in Vermillion for the same reason most people decide to move to Vermillion. They love the sea. Being a crabdad, the sea and the beach are very important to him. Karkat, on the other hand, hates the beach, for a very simple reason.
Krabbies are obsessed with him. When Karkkat was just a young wriggler, trying to make his way in the world, hanging with his lusus by the beach, not knowing then what he knew now, when a young Krabby attached itself to his shorts. And it has not let go since. Ever since then, krabbies have been coming up to him out of the blue, flocking to him, because he shares the scent of his lusus. They pinch him and prod him and perform all other manner of sickening attention-seeking behavior to try and catch his affections. He hates all of them with the loathing of a thousand suns. One day, when crabdad and Karkat had had enough of the krabbies mating and reproducing in their home, they moved to Pewter, where Karkat attended school and lives contentedly under the radar, with his lusus and the only crab that followed him, "DUMB BITCH" as he likes to call her. While living in Vermillion, Karkat began to care for his pokemon. He started to actually like her, and began to pay attention to her, treating her as both a pet and a friend. One day, DUMB BITCH got into a fight, trying to protect Karkat after his blood color was revealed. Karkat immediately took her to the hospital, and decided that he would never let anything happen to her again. He would make her stronger. He would train her to never get hurt again.
Personality: Karkat is a ball of self-hatred. He hates his clothes. He hates his blood. He hates his height. He hates his horns. He hates that he hates himself, for crying out loud. Karkat may be mean and rude to his friends, but secretly, underneath all the crud he puts them through, he secretly likes them. This is not the case with himself. He really believes that he is an idiot. He really thinks that's he's not a good person. And despite his self-doubt and self-loathing, and his put-upon aggression and anger, his largest fear is that he's right to believe these things about himself.
But enough about Karkat's relationship with Karkat. Let's talk about his relationship with other people. Karkat has never been what you would call "polite" or "courteous" or even "okay to talk to in a pinch." In fact, he is the opposite of all these things. If you talk to Karkat, even if you are his moirail, or his best platonic friend, he will still insult you with all his might. Why does he do this? Is he really just a rude, abrasive, asshole? Well, yes and no. Yes, he is a rude aggressive asshole, and, well, yes, but there's a reason for it.
Troll culture is very complex. Violence and aggression is the norm. Karkat, knowing that he is already a mutant, has had to hide his soft, gooey, "nice" side for years, for fear of being culled, or drawing attention to himself. After a while, he just... became an asshole to everyone, even those he loved.
But even though Karkat is a good actor, and is naturally prone to a permeanant state of annoyance at this point, he really does have the capability to love people. And he often does. Sometimes he fears he likes people TOO much, and that they don't like him the same way, and that's it's not "troll-y" enough to love people as much as he does. But he loves them anyway. In his own way. Between calling them "DUMB WASTES OF AIR."
EDIT:Because he loves people so much, and because of his insufferable need to be right about everything, Karkat likes to think of himself as a leader of sorts. Although Karkat has very little experience leading, his utter refusal to not be the leader make him a strong candidate for almost any leadership role. In short, he wants to be the leader so hard, that people, despite their lack of faith in him, follow him anyway.
Goal: Karkat is trying to build up the strength of his pokemon, DUMB BITCH, so she never gets hurt again. As he goes onward, he will eventually acquire more krabbies, and other pokemon, and after dealing with the fact that he has more IDIOTS to take care of, he will eventually decide they need to be trained as well. So that they never get hurt.
