Well, he'd been abandoned by Sollux, which he was still angry about. Who did that leave him stuck with? John, Vriska, and Terezi. What an absolutely lovely traveling group. Would even one of them be competent? At all? Probably not. "Alright you worthless bags of lusus shit, let's get this show on the road. You're all going to follow my lead, and do exactly as I instruct, got it?" he pinched the bridge of his nose with slight annoyance as he took the first few brave steps out of town, obviously expecting the others to follow him. "If our group wants to have even a minute chance of being successful, stick with me and we will be fucking masters in no time."
He was definitely confident in his abilities to lead the ragtag band along. Mostly. Mostly confident was a good way to put it. Though they were hardly even out of Pallet, the adrenaline of simply journeying out to finally begin their Pokemon journey began pulsing through his body. He fingered the single Pokeball on his belt carefully, poking the empty ones attached to it with a slight puff in his cheeks. What types of Pokemon would they encounter? Perhaps his first additional partner would be strong and fierce, much like himself. Nothing wimpy or too small, for sure. Though that was what most Pokemon were near the beginning, right? Though their evolutions definitely got a lot bigger (just look at Pidgey and Pidgeot, or Caterpie or Weedle and their final evolutions), so maybe a small one would be alright for now. As long as it could fight, there wouldn't be much of a problem with Karkat.
"Don't fall behind, because there is no way I'll be turning around to come get you," he called back absentmindedly, not really turning to see how close they were or if they were actually following through with his earlier demands. He simply assumed they were. And he definitely wasn't paying much attention to anything but the road straight in front of him. He was determined to get straight through to Viridian, and from there Pewter City. The first gym was there, after all. And that was his first stepping stone to much greater things. All in due time.
