• Brief description of personality: Eridan is a brat, pure and simple. He's self-centred, and some (read: everyone) would say egotistical, though talk to him about anything deep and meaningful for more than five seconds and you'll quickly realise his ego is actually more like a fragile house of cards that will eventually collapse under its own weight.
He's a hopeless romantic at heart(collapsing and expanding aquatic vascular system*) but even in a relationship as trivial as a friendship he'll assume that the world revolves around him, and rather than act to try and make it equal he'll complain and mope a lot and utterly fail to realise that he is the problem. In the end, he tends to send people running for the hills even when deep down he desperately wants to be worth something to someone (a secret he'll guard with his life, make no mistake).
He's terrified of being alone, though, despite the way he might come across as wanting nothing to do with anyone. As such, even after a major fall-out he's likely to hang around the fringes of society until someone finds him too annoying to have hanging around like that and begrudgingly lets him back into the group.
Last but not least, he seems to act like he thinks other people's opinion of him has to involve him being better than them in some way. This somewhat competitive side of him leads him to dress pretentiously, carry himself with faked confidence and insist he's the great thing since sliced bread. Until, of course, someone hits him where it hurts (usually by implying he'll be alone forever, or reminding him how great he actually isn't) and that aforementioned house of cards flops onto the floor in the most ingratiating posture of surrender imaginable, and maybe also catches on fire or something. This is not actually a hard feat in itself, given that Eridan actually knows exactly what people think of him and how pathetic he actually is - he just tries super hard not to think about it, and this ends in him almost convincing himself that those problems don't exist. A reminder is usually all it takes.
