Brief description of personality: He has a bit of a holier-than-thou attitude that disappears as soon as something bad happens (or at least something that startles him). He acts like he's the best thing to ever happen to anybody because he kind of wants to be. He has some issues stemming from his desire to be important. In his darker moments, he may even admit that his half-hatched plans of genocide are only because of that. Of course, no one actually realizes this because he acts like too much of a pompous buttnugget for anyone to actually want to know more about him.

Basically he's a big dumb baby who pushes everyone away when all he wants is for them to get closer.

Not that he'll ever confess to that! He has an image to keep up, after all. Speaking of images, Eridan is highly concerned with his. He knows he's an asshole and doesn't usually care (because hey, might end up being a caliginous waltz), but when people actually talk about how much they platonically hate him or how much of a dick he is, it hurts! He isn't this big heartless jerk. He is capable of caring, you know! And he does care. A lot. He can be surprisingly compassionate about people, though it's mostly limited to those who deem him worth their time, despite his off-putting personality.

"Am I not worth your fuckin' time? Is that it?!" Eridan snarled, hands clenching into fists at his sides. His eyes burned, but he wouldn't let his emotions take over in front of this dirty lowblood. His anger was only fueled by Sollux's arched eyebrow, his scornful look like he was better than him. With a suddenness that makes his breath catch in his throat, Eridan wants so badly to hurt him, to make him bleed.

He was never good enough for anyone. Not good enough for matespritship, not good enough for kismesissitude. He was sick and tired of it, and something of it must have shown on his face because Sollux's expression flickered, for one second something other than complete disdain. "You're finally getting a clue," the mustardblood said, utterly flippant, apathetic in a way that implied he practiced it.

He didn't realize he was reaching for a Pokéball until Sollux glanced down to his belt. "Looking for a fight, Ampora?"

Eridan ground his teeth together, detesting the way he said it so condescendingly. You aren't better than anybody, he wanted to shout. He wanted to scream and grab Sollux's throat and make him feel all the pain Eridan's felt. He forced himself to take a deep breath and gave Sollux an icy glare, desperately trying to regain his composure. "You wish," he sneered, turning on his heel and leaving. He pretended not to hear Sollux's derisive snicker.

As soon as he turned the corner, he slumped against the wall. He hadn't even noticed he was shaking. Staring down at his hands, he thought bitterly that yes, he was still a coward.
