Another yelping squeak from the Rattata, feeling sharp canines close around his shoulder hard. Reflexively, Rattata twists his neck and sinks his buck teeth into the Growlithe's flesh in return. Causing a sharp pain that should get Bec to open his jaws, so Rattata can jump free.
As he leaps away from the canine, however, he stops in his tracks, very wary of the Charmander blocking his escape. He eyes the prepared claws, wary of meeting anything sharp or burning.
If he goes forward, he'll be burnt or scratched. If he goes back, he'll be bitten again, or worse. Indecision grips his frame, as well as fear. He feels trapped, and stands right where he is, his stance wary and ready to dash, not that he has much of an escape route.
He feels dreadfully vulnerable...

Bec yelped, not expecting that the Rattata would be flexible enough to bite into him. Bec regained his footing and let out a low growl. Upon noticing the small Pokémon's fear and indecision he took a more smug and prideful stance. This battle was in the bag, but he should probably wait for his dear partner Jade to give him the final command. He can't go running off willy-nilly now, that poor girl would be utterly lost without him.
Jade quickly ran over and retrieved her bag after the Rattata was drawn away. She quickly took inventory and it seemed as though nothing of importance was burnt beyond recognition so that was okay, but she's now seriously low on Pokémon treats. "Well, everything inside seems okay and I guess it can hold up for a little while, but as soon as we get to Viridian we're going bag shopping." She said, announcing the results. "I can understand if you can't give me the money right away, but I'm still going to hold you up to it!" She then returned her attention to matters at hand. "Come on guys you got it trapped! Bec use ember!"
Becquerel let out a small bark of confirmation before returning to a more fight-worthy stance and letting out a tiny puff of flame at the Rattata. Someday, he will be able to use flamethrower and breathe fire in the most majestic way possible. That day is not today.
Fuck yes! They so had this thing cornered. John grinned, pointing over-dramatically at Casey. "Nice one, Casey! Now, you use ember, too."
Casey stepped forwards and mimicked the actions of the dog-Pokémon, adding a small flame attack of her own to Bec's. Hey, with their attacks combined, it was probably a hell of a lot more powerful than usual! That Rattata was toast. Though hopefully not literally, because John was sort of hoping maybe he could catch it?
"I am really sorry about that," he said to Jade, not sounding all that apologetic, "I will buy you a new one with my first battle winnings, I promise! Assuming I actually win a battle?"
When the flames began to subside, John threw a Pokéball in what he hoped was the creature's direction. Hey, if he was going to win some battles and pay Jade back, he would probably need more than just a Charmander.
It's worse than he'd predicted. Not one, both BOTH the 'mon surrounding him bombard him with flaming embers. Rattata cringes, showered in little cinders. When he opens his eyes again, the embers have stopped. He checks over himself slowly... Maybe, just maybe, he got away from that unscathed...
[Wild Rattata sustained a burn!]
The rodent begins to panic as his fur catches aflame once more, more severely than before. This time his stop-drop-and-roll technique isn't working, either.
Klunk.
At this point, Rattata WELCOMES the confines of the Pokéball. It was rather sudden, but he was pulled from the fire and into the sphere... He wrestles with the interior a bit, making the ball wiggle, but reconsiders before long. Does he really WANNA escape and go back out there? Between those two fire-breathers?
Click.
No. No, he doesn't. He's gonna stick in here where it's comfy.
Ah yes, look at how those small flames combined into a brilliant blaze. If it wasn't for the fact that Becquerel was but a small dog Pokémon, he could write verses of poetry on the beauty of it. But, such is life. All things considered, he and Casey did a pretty good job right? Good enough for a treat right? After the Pokéball clicked firmly shut, he pranced on over to his dear trainer Jade and began pawing at her skirt and yapping. She knows what he wants. "Bec what do you think you are doing you silly pup! You had tons of treats during the battle I saw you scavenge them!" Jade replied, gently pushing on Bec's head to get him to stop jumping up. Of course, the Growlithe's natural reaction was to let out the most pitiful whine ever. No young female could resist that charm, or at least that is what he believes. It certainly always works on Jade, in any case. "Okay, okay, but I guess I'll be buying more treats when we go bag shopping," she paused and glanced over at John "which is totally what we are doing as soon as we reach Viridian, in case you forgot. Congratulations on the catch regardless." She then crouched down to Bec's level and gave him some Pokétreats. Bec ate them up happily and Jade had gross doggie slobber hand. She wiped off her hand on her skirt and stood up. "Well I'm ready when you are!" she said, oddly cheerful compared to how she spoke only moments before.

"That's my girl!" John cried, scooping up Casey into his arms. Wow, his baby was growing up so fast. It almost brought tears to his eyes. "Daddy's little princess, all fighting off dangerous rodents by breathing fire at them! I'm so proud." He propped the Charmander on his shoulder and gave her a pat on the head, sort of regretting that he didn't have any sort of treats for her. He'd have to get her some berries when he had the chance.
Casey nodded at Bec, pleased to have maybe made a Pokémon friend? Or at least, a met a Pokémon that she could work together with, rather than fighting. Boy, did she hate fighting! That battle was super-scary! But John seemed pleased with her. And besides, she couldn't stay weak forever, right? It was a Pokémon-eat-Pokémon world out there.
John bent down to pick up the Pokéball containing his new Rattata, pondering it closely. "You sure were a tough one to catch! A real LITTLE MONSTER. I will call you Howie Mandel." He attached the ball to his waist, and then stuck a victory pose, like something Ash Ketchum might do. Man, what a great show.
"Okay, Jade! Viridian City, here we come! I'll find you a new bag, promise."
